Artist:
Adam, Eduard or Edouard (French, 1847-1929) - Oilpaintings on canvas (rarely also on board)
Place:
Worked and lived in Le Havre, Northern France.
Motifs:
Ship Portraits, Marine Scenes, sometimes with local background
Prices:
Prices depend on subject, size, date, quality and condition. Please send us an e-mail to receive an exact offer for your painting (free of charge for persons considering to sell their painting).
Notes:
Adam spent all his life in Le Havre and painted between 1872 and 1920 about 1,200 to 2,000 oil paintings, most of these have large dimensions (eg. 60 x 90 cm). He changed his style during the time only slightly and had two sons (Victor Edouard and Edmond), who continued the tradition. Many of his works depict steamers around the turn of the century. A picture of his signature can be found here. More information about the artist and his oeuvre can be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists".

The FineArtEmporium might be interested in the direct purchase or brokerage of Oilpaintings by this artist. Please refer to our page "Contact" and send an e-mail to bais(at)gmx.de with the information requested there. You will usually receive an answer usually within a few days.

Image of Eduard Adam Ship Portrait

Ship Portrait of the *Menai Straits off Cape de la Heve* 1878 – The British Bark under full sail passing Cape Heve (near Le Havre), a pilot boat arriving in the background – Oil on canvas – 62 x 92 cm (24 1/2 x 36 in.) – signed lower right "Ed Adam", dated "1878" and further inscribed "Havre" – good condition, not relined, one repair in the left sky section, slight inpaint, usual crackle, nice old gold frame - Private Collection Northern Germany

Note: An early and very well done work by the famous French ship portrait artist with a romantic early evening impression. Paintings with a quality like this one were the reason why Adam Senior has been elected as official marine painter for the French government and why he is represented in the Musee de la Marine in Paris with a permanent exhibition.
