Notes:
After being a sailor on an American ship for some years he worked in Antwerp as a scene and marine painter. He continued the tradition of Petrus Weyts and other artists in Belgium and preferred reverse on glass paintings, sometimes with the sky being painted on paper and placed behind the glass. All his works date in the National Scheepvaartsmuseum Antwerp date from 1878. Information about the artist and his oeuvre can be found also in our books "Ship Portrait Artists" and "World Register of Ship Portraits Edition 1999/2000" (coming in spring 1999).
