Johann Bennetter was a seafarer until the 1840`s and was mainly active as an artist from 1850 to 1898 (the last years of his life he did not paint anymore because of a sickness of his eyes). From 1855 to 1870 he exhibited in the Salon at Paris and after 1866 in Stockholm, 1873 in Vienna / Philadelphia and after 1880 in Oslo. Most of his pictures shows scenes from Norway and some include nice moonlight effects. In the 1880`s he was travelling to Iceland as an artist. |
