Note: The artist painted this scene from his own experience while he stayed and travelled in Italy. He was at the Royal Academy of Art in 1889 and a student of Rudolf Bissen. This painting fits perfect for a living room with light colors and in combination with antique and/or modern furniture. This oilpainting belongs to the private Art Collection of a Lady in Germany. Alfred Broge

Biography of the artist: Alfred Broge was educated at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1889 and a pupil of Rudolf Bissen. Broge painted primarily city scenes, landscapes and interieurs. He was well known for his excellent series of landscapes with sunlit summer scenes and several of his paintings have been reproduced between the World War I and II on postcards and posters because of their charming appearance. Broge travelled within Scandinavia and to Italy (where he stayed for some time), Spain and France. His paintings were exhibited at Castle Charlottenborg between 1892 and 1911 and at the Art Union between 1921 and 1940. He received several honors for his works, eg. the Academy Prize in 1900, 1901 and 1903. His paintings appears regularly on the international art markets and his best works were sold at the mayor 19th Century Paintings auctions in London and New York (at prices between US$ 5,000 and 12,000 - the Top-Price once paid was US$ 16,800). Southern views by Broge are rare and does not often appear for sale. Although most of his paintings date from the 20th Century they belong from the execution (realistic with light impressionism) more to the art of the last decade of the 19th Century.
