In German: Große Kapitäns-Kommode mit fünf Schubladen, ca. 1860 - Mahagonie (Karibik) mit Palisander-Intarsienband und originalen Messingbeschlägen und versenkten Messinggriffen - 100 x 93 x 53 cm - restauriert u. Schlösser erneuert, Furnierschäden - diese Art Möbelstücke wurden nur in England und Amerika gebaut und nur wenige Exemplare waren im Besitz von wohlhabenden, deutschen Übersee-Kapitänen. Ein seltenes Stück aus der Blütezeit der Segelschiffahrt.

The large brass handles on the sides, the inset brass handles at the drawers (front) and the brass bound edges are typical features of such Marine Campaign Furniture. The drawers have a dovetail construction for sturdy durability. Some more detail photos:

All drawers can be opened easily and this prestigious marine furniture is also suitable for daily use. We regret that the photos does not show this item in a suitable setting - for example on an antique oriental carpet, with a pair of 19th C. gilted candleholders, a marble / parian bust or a pair of crystal decanters on the top - and of cause with an impressive 19th Century Ship Portrait in Oil hanging over it, such as the Tindall or Dahl, shown in our For Sale Category.
