Notes:
|
Engel Hoogerheyden was first a seafarer, before he became a respected Dutch marine artist of the second half of the 18th Century and first years of the 19th century. Some of his works show harbor scenes from Middelburg or other Dutch cities which include a lot of figures and sailing vessels. Several times he cooperated with the Dutch artist J. Schwartzenbach and they often painted together. Most of his works are signed with his monogram "E.H." on a floating piece of wood. |
