Penny was a professional pierhead painted and marine artist. His compositions are well balanced and show the ship on the open sea or off the local harbour. Information about the artist and his oeuvre can also be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists".

Penny" and dated 1888, the vessel at moderate sea and under nearly full sail in the Hull Roads at the entrance of the Humber, other shipping and Islands in the background - signed and dated lower left - Oilpainting on canvas - 30 x 60 cm (12 by 23 1/2 inch) - good condition, relined, professionally restored, crackle and general slight wear, nice gilded frame - Private Collection New Jersey, U.S.A.
