Notes:
|
Hugo Schnars-Alquist was an appreciated German marine painter, who is especially known for his realistic seascapes and pictures of large Deepwater Sailing Vessels. He travelled as an artist within Germany, to Great Britain, Scandinavia, the United States of America, the Caribbean, Southern America, Africa and Australia and exhibited from 1887 on in Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Dresden, Chicago, Melbourne and at other places. In 1896 he was elected Professor. His pictures can be found today in German Museums and in a some Museums overseas (St. Louis, Adelaide, Southern America etc.). In the first half of the 20th Century have been produced several prints after his paintings, some of these prints were also published in the USA. Please note, that if you have a picture under glass by Schnars-Alquist it is most likely a PRINT, because nearly all his original paintings are executed in oil on canvas. |
