Notes:
Samuel Walters is the best known ship portrait artist of the Liverpool School. His elegant and sophisticated style made his works very popular among English and American captains. His popularity during his lifetime and the fact that he not always signed his paintings poses a problem today. There are fakes or wrongly attributed paintings on the market. Information about the artist and his oeuvre can also be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists".
