We are looking for works by:

Artist:
Weyts, Petrus (Flemish, 1799-1855) - Reverse on Glass Paintings
Place:
Worked and lived in Ostend and Antwerp, Belgium.
Motifs:
Ship Portraits by Sailing Vessels, a few Harbor Views
Prices:
His reverse on glass paintings (ship portraits) starting at Euro 3.000 (Continental Europe) or or BP 1,500 (Great Britain) or $ 3,000 (USA). Prices depend on subject, size, date, quality and condition. Please send us an e-mail to receive an exact offer for your painting (free of charge for persons considering to sell their painting).
Notes:
Weyts´s accurately executed ship portraits in Reverse on Glass are very unique technically speaking. First he had to paint the details in the foreground and add the background later, just the opposite of the oilpainting technique. Today very few of his works have survived the course of time. He had two sons, Ignatius and Carolus, who continued the family business. Some of his paintings are not signed, but can well be attributed. Additional Note: We noticed, that someone produced and sold in this century fakes in oil after prints from P. Weyts Reverse on Glass paintings, which are spread especially in the United States. These fakes bears also the signature: "P.Weyts" and typical examples are works with the title "Saxony of Boston, Nelson Scudder Commander 1842"! - More information about the artist and his oeuvre can also be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists".
