Notes:
Together with Lorenz Petersen one of the leading ship portrait artists of this period in Germany. He started working in Bremen 1831 and his paintings combine high artistic performance, a deep knowledge of nautical details and the ability to convey romantic atmosphere. Note: The original ensign has been alterated by an unknown hand to the American ensign (by adding stars in the upper left corner to the Bremen ensign with the red stripes).
