Worked and lived in Bremen, Germany.
Ship Portraits of Sailing Vessels, Harbor Views, Seascapes, Whaling Scenes.

Together with Lorenz Petersen one of the leading ship portrait artists of this period in Germany. He started working in Bremen 1831 and his paintings combine high artistic performance, a deep knowledge of nautical details and the ability to convey romantic atmosphere. Ship Portrait of the German full-rigged Ship "Anne & Emilie" 1843, the vessel with the old ensign of Bremen at sea, signed and dated, Oil on canvas, 60 x 90 cm (24 x 36 "), not relined, original gilt frame, the possession of a Private Collector in Northern Germany

Note: The original ensign has been alterated by an unknown hand to the American ensign (by adding stars in the upper left corner to the Bremen ensign with the red stripes).
