Notes:
|
Born in Denmark, he was trained at the academy in Kobenhavn and emigrated to the US in 1873. His central profile view ship portraits of merchant Sailing vessels, Steamers, Sidewheelers, Tug Boats and Yachts were much in demand (and he was really doing a good marketing!), therefore his output was immense, ca. 4,000 paintings are known. He changed his style in his later years and paintings after 1905 are quite different from the earlier works. All of his paintings are signed, often he also added his address and many are dated as well. Information about the artist and his oeuvre can also be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists". |
