Petersen was together with his father Lorenz Petersen and a few others one of the renowned ship portrait artists of his time. His style was never monotonous, but varied from romantic, calm compositions to the depiction of ships under full speed in a light swell. The ship´s and/or captain´s name is usually mentioned in the left bottom water section, while his red or white signature is place on the right side. Some of his paintings were done in co-operation with his relative P.C. Holm. Information about the artist and his oeuvre can also be found in our book "Ship Portrait Artists".
