Ship Portrait of the two-masted American Tug Boat "Ocean King - L. Luckenbach 8 South St. NY" 1886, the vessel from New York is shown under full steam at fair weather - Oil on canvas - 56 x 92 cm (22x36 inch) - signed, inscribed with title and address and dated – good condition, period frame – Private Collection USA Note: The Screwtug "Ocean King" was built 1884 at Neafie & Kevy in Philadelphia for L. Luckenbach in New York City. It measured 109.0 x 21.0 x 12.5 and is listed with 201 tons. The sketch for this ship is in the Jacobsen index (please refer to Sniffen p. 224 No. 10) and held in the Mariners` s Museum, VA. A similar painting (or this painting) is listed itself under No. 11 in this book. |
